What is The Eagle Award

The Eagle Award is an annual event held in the United Kingdom to honour notable achievements of black people across the world

Objectives

  • To celebrate the achievements and successes of people of African descent
  • To generate awareness of the notable achievements of black people around the world
  • To create role models for young people and inspire them with the confidence that they can make a difference inthe world and their communities

    Why this event?

  • The Eagle Award's mission is to reinforce all that is positive in our society as Africans and to inculcate in our youth a spirit of excellence and service to their immediate community
  • The Award wants to reward black leaders and positive role models who do not always get the recognition that they

KIP KEINO Kip Keino :World famous Kenyan track-and-field athleteBorn in 1940 Kip Keino became a world famous Kenyan track-and-field athlete and two-time gold medalist at the Olympic Games.Keino began his international running career in 1962 . At the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, Keino represented Kenya in their first games as an independent nation.Later in 1964 he set two world records, at the 3000-metre distance with a time of 7 minutes 39.6 seconds, and at the 5000-metre distance with a time of 13 minutes 24.2 seconds.HONOURS At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, where, after having to jog a mile to the stadium because his taxi was stuck in traffic, he won the 1500-metre race with an Olympic record time of 3 minutes 34.9 seconds.
